Industrious and known as ecosystem engineers, beavers are constantly gnawing at wood along the lakes and rivers to make new additions to their lodge. They can weigh up to 50 kgs and are the second largest living rodents. Mostly found in North America beavers play a critical role keeping our wetlands intact to moderate water temperature and reduce sediment and nutrients downstream. I chose these colours to highlight the glistening fur in contrast to the forest shaded water.
