Muskrat
Muskrat
I frequent a small little cattail pond in the back harbour of Lunenburg to visit a family of muskrats. I spotted them last winter and access to quietly view them is great. I am assuming that there are more than one individual all tucked in their mud house. Muskrats prefer soft herbaceous material to build their home which differs from the beaver lodge. They are not related to the beaver but closer to voles and lemmings. They can swim underwater for up to 17 minutes! I focused on creating a deep muddy watery palette of golds and browns to highlight the fur and a nod to the habitat.
