Black Bear
I am blessed with living in the heart of the rainforest just outside the seaside village of Ucluelet. Every spring just when the skunk cabbage, dandelions, and other flowers are showing their finery, a bear or two show up in my yard. This particular piece is inspired by several photographs of the largest male bear I have seen on Vancouver Island right at my back door. He visits every couple of weeks and cruises through munching on the grass and berries without a care in the world. I always keep quiet, respect the distance and for the last few years we seem to coexist without a problem.
